Continuing Medical Education Committee Member

Location: Remote 

Reports To: SVP Chief of CME Operations, CME Directors 

Position Type: Contract 

Overview: The CME Chair provides academic and operational leadership for an accredited continuing medical education (CME) program under California Medical Association (CMA) accreditation. The Chair ensures CME activities and applications meet CMA/ACCME standards for independence, content validity, learning design, conflict-of-interest management, and physician credit reporting; leads planning and oversight of educational content, faculty selection, outcomes evaluation, and program improvement. CMA is the ACCME-recognized CME accreditor for California. 

Key Responsibilities:  

  • Serve as the primary medical/academic lead for the accredited CME program and its activities.  
  • Oversee the CME application process and content for gap assessment, educational design, learning objectives, and evaluation plans for CME programs.  
  • Ensuring CME programs comply with CMA/ACCME accreditation policies (independence from commercial influence, disclosure and mitigation of conflicts of interest, content validity).  
  • Approve and/or recruit CME committee members; review the sign-off on speaker disclosure management and mitigation plans.  
  • Support in reviewing documentation required for CME credit reporting and audits.  
  • Chair CME committee meetings; review agendas, minutes, and action items 
  • Assist in monitoring/tracking departmental outcomes and use evaluation data to guide improvements and future curriculum.  
  • Participate in occasional on-site program conferences (e.g. CMA Conference and/or ACCME conference) and remote review sessions as scheduled. 
  • other duties as may be assigned from time to time 

Qualifications:  

  • Doctoral medical degree (MD or DO)  
  • Active, unrestricted medical license or equivalent privilege appropriate to role (or ability to obtain/maintain).  
  •  Demonstrated experience in medical education — curriculum design, adult learning principles, and CME activity development.  
  • Prior experience serving in a leadership role in accredited CME (program director, chair, or similar) strongly preferred.  
  • Knowledge of ACCME/CMA accreditation requirements, disclosure/COI management, and documentation for physician credit.  
  • Strong communication, organizational, and committee leadership skills. 

Time Commitment & Expectations:  

  • Attend Annual CMA Conference and/or ACCME Conference yearly or alternating years (preferred).  
  • Program may require occasional evening hours for CME committee meetings and/or Unison departmental meetings.  
  • The Chair must follow CMA/ACCME policies around separation from commercial interests and disclosure of relationships. 
  • Compensation paid hourly at the agreed FMV rate; invoices submitted monthly. 

Compensation:  

The compensation for a CME Chair committee member in California varies depending on experience, institution, and the scope of the role. Based on current industry standards, the contractual hourly rate will be as stated: 

  • Pay rate: $60 per hour 
  • Compensation paid hourly at the agreed FMV rate; invoices submitted monthly. 


Other Benefits: CME members will receive additional benefits, including travel reimbursement, a $35 monthly stipend for internet expenses, and special rates for services such as IRB, CME, and analytics.
